Doing a little swapping on the Hunting forums, getting a new in the box HB 898c-si. Planning on mounting it on my toon. Will I need any special cables or adapters in ordered to accomplish this?
This will be the only graph on the boat so networking won't be an issue.
The guy gave me a choice of HDS 7 with Structure Scan, or the HB 898c-si I went with the bird so I would only have to mount one transducer, was this a good idea as there is only one mount on one log.

Excellent Choice. It comes with the main transducer. If you own a fiberglass boat you may want to add a shoot thru hull transducer to get on plane depth.
What type boat is it going on?

Rigging the boat for drift fishing for Cats, Stripers and Hybrids something to kids will enjoy without all the casting, I'm a bass fisherman by choice so this will be a new ball game...

The one transducer will do it all but...
On Pontoons if the motor is in the line of sonar to the left side it could block some of the readings to that side. Some the motor is forward or can be trimmed up and not casue any issues. I mounted one on my parents pontoon they had several years ago and the motor partially blocked the left beam but was still useable and they understood. They didn't want to invest in splitting to two transducers a Left SI and Right SI. But it can be done with the AS SI LR Y Cable to get around somethign blocking the beam.

I realize this will be an issue, as my motor sits far past my logs, eventually i will invest in the other transducer. But, I will have to have a mount welded on my other log first.

I would try it first and see if it blocks the signal any...if it does you can invest in the second SI transducer if you need it.

caster, I too have a toon that I'm looking at mounting an SI to. I finally got a few folks to provide feedback as to whether or not the eng will block the xducer. My bracket is on the left side as well, but since I have the fishing barge suncruiser, it appears the eng pod is extended enough to prevent eng blocking. We use ours for crappie, hybrid fishing as well. The big diff with the toons compared to the bass boats is like driving a bus vs driving a car. Good luck, I'd like to hear if you have any issues. Here you can see the distance from eng and toons http://www.crappie.com/crappie/fishing-e...er-pontoon.html

All you need is about 6" to shoot the SI to the side...with the engine offset that much you should have plenty of room for a single transducer to provide all readings.
