This may not be the right place to post this, but I did not find a "Do-it-yourself" forum. I know this is not a kayak, but it is closer to that than anything else.
I came into possession of several Jet Ski's with no running motors. I am planning on cutting them down and making paddle boats out of them. I have one with a title, and will see if I can build a motor mount for a small outboard. They average between 8.6 ft to 10 ft. The 10 ft is the one I have the title to. I have to take out all of the mechanical equipment, steering gear and anything else not needed. I figure that if they are designed to hold all the engine and mechanism plus two people that they should be stable enough to paddle around the lake. I intend to leave as much of the floatation as I can.
Has anyone done this, or even thought about it? I will try to post a picture when I get the first one done and tested.
JIM
PS: I think that something like this would work better for some of the larger fishermen that just want to get on the water and are not worried about how fast they can paddle.

A bad day fishing is better than a good day doing anything else.

The only problem I could forsee with those is weight. Seems like they would way alot more than a yak and be harder to load unload or drag where you wanted them.

Seems like a ton of work compared to hitting craigslist and dishing out $300 to buy a kayak. A yak that weighs 40 pounds and sits closer to the water will paddle much better than a jet ski. But if you got the time and just want to give it a shot post some pics and let us know how it works.

I'd just slap a trolling motor on it and see how fast it would go.

PS: I think that something like this would work better for some of the larger fishermen that just want to get on the water and are not worried about how fast they can paddle. Kayaks can carry a lot of weight. Out of the two in my signature the left hold 350 lb and the right hold 400 lb. Both can be thrown in a truck and carried by one person plus the can move fast which is important you will find.
