Yes a snake bite can kill you but about 12 to 20 people actually die from a snake bite in the US and I bet 90% percent of those deaths were bacuse they didn't get treatment with in the first few hours of being bit. A rattle snake bite is painful and will cause your skin to rot away but if treated in a timely manner death is very rare and uncommon. Your actually putting your self at more of a risk trying to kill and then move the dead snake than you are just avoiding it or getting it removed by a professional.

I don't know if this is true or not but I have been told if you slap the water, bushes or whatever and chase the snake off it will make it want to avoid humans even more, is this true?

When I see a snake I chase it off, not hurting it.

You failed that class, bro. Google a Texas rat snake.

You are correct I was mistaken. Still as soon as I saw the eyes new I was ok and getting my hook back. Still fun to handle there pretty amazing creatures. (and I actually got a B).

I may be the only one in this category, but I welcome snakes to swim by me. I've been looking for my first mocassin. They have a beauty that is almost unmatched by any other reptile. Don't care if they are poisonous or not, as a matter of fact, I have been on a rattlesnake mission this spring. I would LOVE to find my first rattler while beating the banks for some fish just to have pictures of it.

Not only do I welcome snakes I also keep snakes as a hobby as well. Snakes are always getting a bad wrap because you hear these stupid people keeping big pythons and they let them go or they starve them and thats what causes these stories you hear of pets being eaten or in the rare case someone killed. If more people had just a basic knowledge of the types of native snakes and what to do to avoid them with out causeing harm to one another then we wouldn't have as many problems with them.

+1000 God put enmity between man and snakes for a reason and furthermore gave us dominion over all animals, I have had snakes as pets and my ball python was probably the best pet I ever had so dont say I am just an uneducated snake hater but when it comes to the saftey of myself and my family I shoot first and ask questions later, I wonder how many people have died or been painfully injured because they mis-identified a snake

I was chased and cornered in my truck while fishing a tank so repect them by killing or leaving them alone and don"t make one mad slapping a rod sometimes works and sometimes makes them very very mad.

I KILL THEM ALL!!!i have two ponds on my property and have plenty of rat snakes, water moccasins, copperheads and some kinda snake that looks like a pit viper that always gets away. the problem with not killing them is they end up on your doorstep at night!!! if i knew how to post pics i would show you a few that have made that mistake once. i can buy a cat or a mouse trap for the rodent

I have always been a friend to the non-poisonous snake, picked them up and let them go. Until a couple of weeks ago a guy I know stepped out of his car and got bit by a cotton mouth through the heel of his tennis shoe. 3 days in the hospital and a $100,000 bill later for anti venom later, you can bet I will shoot from now on, at least he had insurance.

I have a picture, how do i post it?
