A group of veterans from the Kerrville VA went fishing today at Kiehl park near Waring. Thanks to the folks of Kendall county for that. All had fun, fished till they were tired and then socialized. I am a nurse at the VA so I went with them. While they were relaxing in the shade, I decided to try MY luck at this spot. Put a chartreuse road runner on my rod, first cast was a 3 pound LMB! within 10 minutes, had 4 more anywhere from 2-4 pounds. Moved to a different spot and cast a few times, then I found them! CRAPPIE! first one was HUGE.

I have been looking for a good crappie pond near home for years. I caught 2 more withing 10 more minutes. These fish were SUH-LABBS! Healthy, fat and juicy looking. I was so happy thinking that I had found my crappie pond that I failed to notice a small sign nearby. I went to get my GPS to mark my position and then I saw it: it read, "all fishing is catch and release only."

I am currently suffering from a horribly broken heart. I finally found a spot with quality fish, no fishing pressure, and close to home, and I can't keep a single one. I am dying of that broken heart right now. Worst part is, I didn't think I would be catching anything so I didn't take a camera. But, the vets had a blast and all went well for them. I may survive after all. hammer

Nice story, I bet the vets you escorted had a wonderful time. Pics can last a lifetime. Perhaps you should post one or two.

There were some photos taken, but most had the veteran/patients in them. That then gets into a privacy/security act with the feds who pay my paycheck. They're kinda touchy about that. Sorry.

It is a small artificial pond built on a creek. It is a park in kendall county. has tables, porta-johns, etc. very nice place. well kept. Just a note, they are dead serious about the catch and release only rule, as park employees will regularly come down and check you out. Not taking a shot at anyone, just saying. Play straight and you will always be invited back. Have fun.
