Hit a little pond today instead of getting the boat out. Punching some mats felt a tick a got heavy, set the hook and pulled up the alot of grass and this guy! -- Don't worry I put him back, heck of a time getting my hook back though. Hard to lip him.

I'm all for thowing bass back, but im honestly not sure i could throw one of those back. Any time i see a snake, i cant help but think; "If i leave it there, what if a small kid comes running through here, gets bit, and dies"

I know that snakes, even venemous ones, have an important role to play in the food chain/eco systems, but that thought always haunts me when i see one.

I would have removed it from population as I haven't gotten a memo yet saying they are endangered or heard their numbers are dropping...But thats me....

Just a thought....

That is just a common water snake it is more afraid of you than you are of it. The more people kill snakes when they come across them the higher the rodent and pest population will get. No matter how much you may fear or hat them just walk away and avoid them or relocate to a less populated area.

Oh and for the record poison is ingested where as venom is injected that's why snakes are venomous not poisonous.

i knew somebody would get technical.

I agree with everything you said, but my knowledge of snakes is miniscule(my fault, not the snakes, i know that). But that being the case, i'd hate to take the risk of letting one go. I fully realize that isn't a good thing to do, and its not the way to properly take care of my surroundings, but i can't help it.

Being a biology teacher as soon as I saw it new it was a diamond back water snake (herpetology class in college also helped). Also has round eyes, copperheads and moccasins have diamond or cat like pupils. Worst with these if bitten is all the little teeth hurt (from experience), and maybe messed pants if you don't see the snake first.

That is a Texas rat snake. Not one person in the history of the earth has ever been killed by one. I can assure you that stupidity has killed millions.

You failed that class, bro. Google a Texas rat snake.

i kill every venoumous snake i see. i dont care about the rodent population getting worse, i'd rather have annoying little things running around then have things that can kill you everywhere

Thats the problem...you can help it. Educate yourself if you find yourself killing snakes a lot.
