Try a straight shank hook

Straight shank. I like the Trokar Flippin' Hook with the bait keeper or the straight shank wide-gap Owner worm hook.

mark perry likes those straight shank hooks from Academy (H2O). my partner uses them and they work good. since you are gonna make your own, i would suggest them for the price point

I would also like to give you a tip on the LFT flipper.. if you hook it off to the side and not in that middle thin section you can get a few more fish with it. If the bite is fickle, hook it in that thin section to increase your hook up ratio. Sometimes the fish eat it good, and sometimes they bite it then spit it if they feel any resistance. when they are eating it good, hook it in the meat... when they arent biting it good, hook it in the thin section.

the LFT flipper is one of my favorites that I dont talk about much. theres a reason for that, because they work very good for me.
