ive been fishing on lake conroe recently for just small eating size catfish, and have been limiting daily with throwlines in 10-15 ft of water with shad for bait. the biggest fish ive caught so far was only about 10-12 lbs. im wanting to know from you guys that regularly fish for the big blues in deep water how you go about locating these fish throughout different times of the year, and what is the best bait to use? i am assuming that you just space your 5 hooks on each line out from top to bottom of the water column?

10 - 12 lb cats are good size this time of year. yes you can catch bigger but the big ones arent near as plentiful as they are in winter. Right now everything is scattered, but go to the basics (shallow wind blown banks holding shad) and you should catch the fish. In winter, the shad are deeper and balled up so you want to find them on sonar and look for bigger fish around them. Whether its juglines or R & R, use the same tactics. And just because some inconsiderate doesnt fish the way you do, its still fishing!

thanks ddr, that what i was looking for, that what i've been fishing, just not exactly that shallow. and some people march to a different beat...another catfisherman with the bass fishing mentality. on the bright side, noodling is in the process of becoming legal.....maybe hoop nets will be next LOL

Perchpuller:
Keep doing what you are doing only put at least 1 live perch on each line, The yellow cats and Big Blues will eventually find one of your perch, and as said above, a 12 pound cat aint bad this time of year. Try finding that same shallow windblown bank with a channel nearby for yelowcats this time of year.
