Sure the shimanobots will be out in force with other examples from other companies about parts being backordered/not available, but i needed a main drag washer from a Citica E and the key washer and the drag washer is backordered until june and the key washer until september...

The key washer I can live with, that's not a wear part, but the main drag washer is one of the parts of any reel that can wear. I'd think bearings, spools, gears, springs, drag washers, and levelwind parts would always be needed for any reel currently in production.

Forget 3-5 years down the road not finding parts, this is a CURRENT production reel.

I hate homerism (hence the reason for this sarcastic post/thread), and it just seems to me that as all companies go to shorter product cycles/outsourcing getting parts from ANY company will get tougher and tougher.

Contrary to what some fellows think, I have always had some difficulties with procurement of quite a few Shimano parts.

On the other hand, I can imagine that regarding shipping into or out of Japan, that fishing reel parts may not be major priority items at this time. Or at least maybe until things become somewhat more settled, back to business as usual over there.

I agree 100%.I have a friends shimano calyx torn apart right now and guess what?just like literally hundreds of other models no parts are to be found from the manufacturer. Not even a leftover schematic on the shimano website.Just check out all the reels on shimanos website that they no longer service because they have long since discontinued parts for all of them. Its literally hundreds of different models.I tried to get a anti reverse pawl for an older curado which is also the same part# for the current model.Guess what backordered. It amazes me how some people think Japan has much faster shipping for spare parts to the states than Korea.Yes I do prefer jap made over korean made but shimano could do alot better job of providing replacement parts instead of expecting their repeat customers to simply go out and purchase their newest latest greatest when they have a real break.

David, just how old is the Calyx? Been discontinued for years.

Shimano is having some short supply on parts but I have been able to get them or get a date even with the issues in Japan right now. MOst of them are in a cool new Day Glow Green color.

So, you guys get better supply of parts from Pflueger, Pinnacle, BPS, ABu Revo's? All manufacturers with the economy the way it is have reduced all their inventories to essentials. It cost money to maintain cost on inventories. If the inventories are not turning then they are loosing money. Backorders are a way to control inventory to products being presold and reduces the amount of speculative inventory.

There are other places to buy Shimano parts. Baylor Guy works for Southwestern and most likely they will have the parts.

Now as far as the Drag washers and Drag plate...... How many do you need.

The calyx is old and discontinued but so is an ambassaduer ultra mag 2, but you can still find a schematic and buy parts through the maufacturer for it.
Shimano does provide better parts availability I guess for most of their jap made reels that have not been disc. for too very long but the ones made in malaysia forget about them. And yes there have been some revo parts from pure fishing that have been hard to obtain like side plates and a S pawl but I am willing to bet that 25 years from now I can still call and order parts for a revo, but probably not for a curadoE.

David, Why not order from Garcia on the Revo? Snicker.

What people forget is the Revo ain't the same bullet proof reel that the old Garcia was and are built a half world away from each other. Many of the parts on a new 6500C3 are the same as the ones that are 20 or more years old. The same pawl can be used on a reel made in 1971 that is used today.

AS far as SW ordering parts. They do, they just can't get them in from Spirit Lake because they are back ordering them.

If you need the schematics just holler. I have a copy and also some used parts for the Calyx 200. The Calyx has been out of production since 2000. That is 11 years ago.
