230 should work fine, you might even go up to a 240.

I am 5'10" and 63 years old and I like a 240 CM. But a paddle should be selected on more than length. Weight is critical, as is structural integrity and blade style. If you buy a cheap paddle you are going to end up replacing it. If you are planning on spending a day on the water even a few ounces makes a big difference. Obviously as the weight goes down the price goes up. I would suggest a paddle weight around 30 oz if you can afford it, although you can get a paddle as light as 23 oz. For blade style you want either a blade specifically designed for fishing or "performance". get the "performance" blade if you intend to cover more water.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

230 should work fine, you might even go up to a 240. That would depend on the width of the kayak and the height of the seat pan. I have a 230cm paddle, am 5' 11", and have a 29" yak and my paddle is plenty long. DinkSlayer817, which kayak are you looking at? RealBigReel makes a great point. You always want to purchase the best paddle you can.

I never worried about length of any paddle. Ive used several and they all worked decent. But the Carlisle magic plus has been very good and its very rugged. Plus its only $69. Im not worried about getting an ultra light paddle. I guess maybe its because im a big guy and strong.

I guess maybe its because im a big guy and strong. Paddling is more than arm strength. Proper technique includes torso and legs. The Carlisle Magic is definitely the best sub $100 paddle available. However, plastic blades flex and don't transfer power as efficiently as fiberglass or carbon fiber.
