The flying lures sucked so so bad. I bought them 15 + years ago and still have them somewhere.

The ones that dont work are the ones you dont have tied on...

What is better is the ones folks say is all they can catch fish on or that it is a "miracle" type lure when in reality that is the only bait they throw. "Miracle" rings, scents, 100x stretching plastic, UV, air pockets, etc are mainly marketing tools for companies. Spend more time finding active fish and you will be amazed at just how many and what types of lures "work".

i was always taught " you can throw the wrong bait in the right water to catch fish... but NEVER can you throw the right bait in the wrong water to catch em! "
Like Jr said... active fish aren't too picky.

I love this thread! Mainly because it might give me strength to resist the temptation to rush out and purchase the next "must have" lure.

Why? Because this thread identifies so many of the lures that have been "must haves" in previous posts.

My personal tormentors (ie what I'm especially unsuccessful with) are chatterbaits, cranks and buzzbaits.

Spinnerbaits used to be my go-to and I still see them as a good fall back. T-rigged/wacky/drop shot/shakey head plastics (in that order)keep me coming back. Haven't given C-rig a fair chance.

Funny thing is that I almost always avoid plastics if at all possible. I'll easily spend 3 hours flailing the water with cranks and buzzbaits with no luck. I suspect it's a pride/challenge thing.

When I've sufficiently worn myself down throwing cranks or buzzbaits, I'll tie on a plastic basically just to have something to show for my efforts. I then will catch at least a few in short order and find myself wondering why I didn't do this in the first place.

I hope there's a support group out there for this kind of sickness.

Use to not do so well with finese baits, how I changed that around was by trying diffeerent presentations. The wacky worm using a senko works great for me. I found our that I needed to simply slow down. The best worm ever used is a F-5 Tornado. I love the way it will stand straight up on a texas rig.
Of course if any of you are like me, I have tons of different color baits and only about 5 of them that ever catch any real fish. fish

I have had very limited success on swimbaits, deep cranks, and the dreaded suspending jerkbait. Rarely do I throw a swimbait or a deep crank is primarily the reason for limited success. Now, suspending jerkbaits on the other hand....if you have to use one of those then it is too dang cold or the fish are not moving far and fishing blows anyways.

If I couldn't catch fish on a C-rig, I don't think I'd say anything.

Thats like saying you can't catch a fish with live minnows.

its all about location for me. If your on fish it doesn't really matter what you throw the bass will hit it. Fish ain't that smart IMO. Now that's not to say every bait works in every situation..

theres really not anything that just flat doesnt work for me..some produce better than others but i think it has alot to do with situations we choose to throw them. its hard to be catchin em on a squarebill and put it down to pick up a chatterbait when you have no confidence in it. most of the time our bait selection gets more desperate as the bites get fewer..
