Went to my ranch this morning for a little fishing. It runs into the back of nueces bay salt flats. Inside the many finger guts were hundreds of reds all visible in the muddy shallow water. It was very low tide and you could really see them. Many were oversized and I dont think hardly any were under the slot. However, they could have cared less about anything that I threw at them. I started with a tiny chug Bug, then to weightless plastics, and finally DOA shrimp and crabs. Nothing worked. The only time I even got a reaction was when they spooked off. It was very frusterating to see so many good fish and not be able to get a bite. Im thinking about getting a fly rod for these occasions.

Are they milling around, or are they cruising like they're late for the bus?
I've been running into a lot of fish lately that are really spooky and wild, they're crusing really fast, and it takes a perfect cast to intercept them to get a bite. But they're moving so fast, it's a one shot deal. I've been throwing a cajun crab and just letting it sit in their path with reasonable success. Hard baits like topwaters, etc are getting ignored badly.
If they are just milling around, then they really aren't going to bite. Anything you get in their area, that's it, gonners. I wish I had a good answer, but just sharing your pain.

Ran into something similar in Port O'connor a month ago. Read an article recently about using freshwater buzzbaits when they get picky like this. Have not had a chance to try it yet though.
