Had an 04 chevy ext cab z71 and traded up for this 03 chevy duramax! Whatcha think? Anyone have a truck close to this year model and size, I'm looking for some fuel mileage numbers.

I'm not looking for super good mileage, I have two cars for that. I just wanna know what numbers some people are getting with similar trucks

Mine got 9.5 mpg while towing... 12 when not towing... That Allison transmission also had problems about 80k miles...

My old one got 23-24 until I lifted it had to do a few mods. but that is what I averaged

Hope you factored in the astronomical price increase for maintenance and upkeep on a diesel. Everything is twice as expenisve as gas. 23-24 out of an 03 Chevy Diesel!? maybe if you were cruising on the highway all day at 50 mph!!

mine doesn't have the allison, it has the 4 speed automatic.

Well a 4 spd isnt gonna help with your gas mileage any. Id say you should except around 16-17 max with "normal" highway driving which would be about 60-65 mph

Reprogrammer and K&N cold air intake my 07 gets 20-21 empty running 68-70. Pulling = 16mpg

3500 8' bed, crew cab, 4x4. Computer says since day one average 15.1. 135,000 miles. Crusin'(empty) 'bout 60%, pullin' 30'TT, 20' goose neck (stock T), boats 'bout 40%. Injectors replaced at 24,000 (GM) and one u-joint (me)........
1950 rpm (69/70 mph)seems ta be tha "magic" number for mileage on tha highway......Seems pretty good ta me for a big azz comphy truck that will tote/pull 'bout anything ya wanna tie to it. It still all comes down to tha RIGHT foot!
Oh yeah. Most important is your maintance. Oil, filters (especially fuel, air) etc......

Put a chip in it and a good exhaust and you'll be set. A guy in our club has a 08 or 09 2500 Duramax and gets 21 mpg pulling his 21i class.
