Hey guys, I just got my first kayak and have been crappie fishing in it. We are gong to Surfside on vacation in june and I am needing some help on where to go and what to do. I am from Oklahoma so I don't do much saltwater fishing. Mainly bass, striper, and crappie. We go down there every summer and usually fish the jetty. But this time I will have a kayak. I am looking forward to getting out in it and need some help on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My 13 year old son will be bringing his as well.

Well you can do great at surfside without a kayak. just go down to the jetty park (as soon as you cross over the big bridge coming from lake jackson turn right at the light and go all the way down and turn left) walk out into the water about 30 yards to the left of the jetty and go about 20 or 25 yards into the surf and start throwing shrimp. My buddy and I have limited out many days in a row their over the summer months!

or go to the left after the bridge and go to the christmas bay launch ramp and start paddling to the right and you will end up with some reds and trout.

If the surf is very calm, you can launch off the beach. Good seafood place in Surfside - Red Snapper Inn, near the bridge on the road that runs next to the beachfront. Fish sandwich made with red snapper - very reasonable price and tasty!

If the wind is blowing gently out of the SE, you can paddle your kayak out past the end of the jetty. Let the wind slowly blow you back toward the beach and you cast toward the jetty. You can cover a lot of territory that way. Also, when your fighting a fish, you are pulling them away from the rocks, not over them.
