I keep hearing how good mud minnows are for catching Redfish in Texas. How do you find and catch mud minnows? Do most baitstands sell them?

Carlos,

I know that most people use mud minnows for flounder but I guess they work good for Reds also. Most baitstands do sell them although if you get a minnow trap,Bass Pro Shop has some good ones, and put a cut up crab in it you can catch your own. I saw a guy doing it that way and he said he sells them.

Is it against the law to use a seine in Texas Salt Water? I have used them in Florida, 50'x4', but I am certain that a 20'x4' would be just about as effective.

How about using a Seine in the slack water or where you find grass, where I have loaded up on "Mud Minnows" (they like really warm water), "Finger Mullet", and Crabs. And while you are at it try seining the surf (within 5 or 10 feet from shore) where you can also load up on "White bait". We used to catch them by the 100's. A great way to get a child exposed to fishing, just make certain you teach them to shuffle their feet if they are walking in the water.

According to the TPW http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/guide/swdev98.htm, you can use one up to 20 feet long with 1/2 inch or less mesh. It sounds like that might really be productive.
