Alright here's the deal. I have always primarily been a LMB fisherman. I have fished the bays with a guide for trout and reds 10-11 times. I am going with some friends, and am wanting to buy a new rod and reel to use, and keep using. I personally prefer to use baitcasters, but I've heard about a lot about people using spinning rod and reels down there instead. Question is can I get some opinions on good rods and reels for fishing the bays for trout and reds? Will be wading some and fishing from the boat some. Any help will be appreciated.

_Hey Nell: You can use you 7Ft Med Bass rod Like a BPS Extreme with a 5600 Garcia reel spooled with 12Lb P-line or Excalibur line. _Most saltwater artificial baits are fished like Finesse Bass baits on 1/16 to 1/4oz jig heads or Fluke type baits fished weightless. _Good Luck and Catch a Big'un Yall! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bazztex<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I personally use both almost everytime I go out. I use the Okuma Avenger 40 with a 7ft castaway rod. Great combo that doesnt break the bank. The drag works awesome on that rig and I typically use them to throw my assassins. I use my bait caster to throw topwaters and spinning for plastics. It just seems I can throw farther with the spinning rig versus my bait caster.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I will pick up a new spinning rod and reel, and just a new baitcasting rod. I have a couple curados I use for LMB. I guess I'll use them for the bay as well. Thanks again.

Wade or surf fishing use spinning gear - its easier to rinse off and you can't always adjust your position to avoid casting into the wind. Baitcasters are better for boat use - less saltwater exposure. Maintenance is a huge issue in the salt and believe me your reel will get dunked. Its just a matter of time. So, I reserve my beloved Curados strictly for freshwater.

as far as curados go, my family all use curados for fishing.(over a half dozen) We have had them since they came out. We are die hard shimano and allstar fans. I have never once took my curado apart. It's not even green/brown in all the spots cuz of wear. I use it in the surf, wadefishing, on the boat, everywhere. It's never failed. I've had it come out of a rod holder at P.I.N.S., dragged down the beach and into the surf. ran after it, found the line, pulled the rod/reel back, measured the the red and put the fish in the chest. Trick is to wash the rod and reel with fresh water after every salty trip. Like I said "Can't go wrong"
