Has anyone been on these trips? What was it like? How was the food? and How were the ships crew? What would be the standard for tipping?

slower boats than the big e.
food is okay but you still have to pay for your beverages.
you can troll due to the slow speed of the boat. the big e gives you a more comfortable boat with faster speeds which equates into more fishing time at farther offshore locations. also a shorter ride from irving to freeport....rick

there is no limit on tackle

I have been on 3 of the Dolphin Docks 48 hour trips and several shorter jaunts. We have always caught fish and had a great time. Not a cushy vessel, but, hey, it's a fishing trip. Air conditioned sleeping quarters, decent food, hard working crew. Just wish they wouldn't kill as many large pelagic sharks.

Oh by the ways, me and my friend have always tip them anywhere between $20-$30. Not that they are expecting it but they deserve it.Very friendly crew.

I have been out on two Dolphin Dock 24 hour trips in the late 90's and we caught roughly 1500-1800 lbs of fish with 16 fisherman each time. We limited out on amberjack and then tied off to an oil rig to shark, barracuda and snapper fish at night. The guy next to me pulled up a 40lb grouper one time. Both times when we pulled in the dock, the shorter day trippers were coming in with very little fish on board with the exception of some small sharks. I am taking my father in law down for a 24hour trip over Labor day weekend this year so hopefully they will be on the fish again.

Just got back last night from the 48 hr trip. All i can say is we had a great time. This was my first deepsea fishing trip and i limited out on snapper, king mackrel, seven shy of vermillion, got some tuna, shark, and a dorado. I would go again if given the chance.

I've been once on a 40 with them and had a blast. I would go again for sure. The crew on their boats was far batter than any crew on CE's for head boat trips at least. The captain had a great attitude unlike some I have met. We caught lots of fish in really rough seas. THe boat could be a little nicer but then you'd get to pay for it!! I don't want to rent gear. I want to go have fun. I sure don't want a grand worth of rods waiting on me to use them once every year. If you're going for food then take the wife on a cruise. If your going to rip some lips for the least amount of money then go with DD.

I went out on a 24 hour trip in 7/22. Lots of kings, sharks, and snapper. We got some AJs and Ling too. My buddy got a 27 LB AJ and I got a 23 LB blackfin tuna, my biggest of that kind ever. We got a couple African pompano and 7 or 8 species of snapper plus a cuda.

The bunk and AC were great, the food sucked, and since the deck hands let 2 of our fish go overboard through the drain slots in the floor, there went the tip.

Went on the 40 hr that came back yesterday with DD. Caught 10 blackfin avg. 20lb. A snapper llimit although it was small. A few dog snapper, a strawberry grouper, several kingfish and sharks. The food is great because it is fresh fish.
