I am thinking about taking one of the Capt. Elliots 52 or 30 hour trips out of Freeport. The longest off short trip I have taken was a 24hr boat out of San Diego. I have no gear or idea of what those trips are like. I would like to purchase at least one rod and reel for the trip. Any tips on the size of reel and weight of rod. Also is it hard for one person to do the trip or would it be easier for two or more ( for the coolers with food and drink ). Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

get plenty of rest BEFORE the trip.. dont stay up all night the night before blast off....lol.
If you check www.360tuna.com there is a list of recommended gear for these type trips. Get the best equipment you can AFFORD.... you dont want to lose a 100 lb Yellowfin due to your eqipment coming apart... a good starter for me was the Penn 114HLW on a 50-80 lb class rod... that will allow you to chunk(thats whats been hot here lately) and also you can bottom fish with it... you get more specific into lure presentations and you will have a rig for throwing topwaters, and one for jiggin 8-12 ounces iron jigs, and a medium (as the 114HLW) rig, and then a heavy rig for the big boys (penn international 50W on a 80# class all roller rod)... some good guys on this board will steer you in the right direction... they sure have helped me!!
