I still fish trotlines and love it. I have started eating every bass that I catch. Too many bass folks hook a line and cut it. I spend time and money making them. Now days I eat as much bass as catfish. I would kill every bass in the lake if I could. My advice is kill'em, eat'em. I set my line at least 6 ft deep and make sure that they are legal. I am just sick of the arrogant a-holes thinking they own the lake.

j49,
Just be sure & don't keep the bass caught on trotlines, jugs, or throwlines. Or I should say get caught. Course I'm sure you know that already. Fines will happen.
WESTONKH,
Yes, 4/0 could only handle a 20/25# Op, but once you cross that, they can easily spread the "bar" (straighten out). I use minimum of 5/0 on Eagle Claw SS (up to 10/0); 6/0 on Tru-Turn (up to 9/0); 7/0 on Mustad SS stump hooks (up to 9/0) & so on. Using the 5/0 Eagle Claw SS hooks, I won't use if going for over a 30 to 35 pound Op. I managed to catch a 57 pounder one AM back in 2006 on a 5/0, but that was because she had not started trying to truly get away. She was just starting to bend it out. I know the Tru-Turn 7/0 will hold a 40# easily & 6/0 a 30 pounder as well.

So the bass guys help them selves to the fish or cut the lines to rid the mess and or encroachment?
I bank fish a lot lately. First year full time on the lake. I find lots of gear on the banks. Just realized the other day that someone is cutting them, as I found one like every 50 yrds or so the other day. I see so many crews running lines I figured they were doing it to each other, or the lake patrol maybe.
What should I do with floats I find?
* This thread explains the surprise on the faces of the guys, when I told them where I put their gear so they could find it, and their cooler lid too.

75 percent of bait was gone and only a few small fish. Maybe tonight will be better! Did find a ton of shad but then realized I left my cast net at the house.... They were on sand bars in the middle. Did catch a few good channels on CJs shad tho.

Hey Sparky, Get an EZ THrow net by Fitec. It is the easiest net in the world to learn and use. It is like a cast net with "tarining wheels.
When ONLY live will do !
