Do you use EWG or rounded treble hooks when using topwaters? I have heard EWG hooks are not good on topwaters, due to the strikes coming below topwater? What brand hook would you recommend? Thnxs......

I use Mustad KVD Elite Series Short Shank Triple Grips.

I use Gamakatsu #2 round bends with success. Sharp High Quality hooks, The KVD Trebles are great also, recently bought a pack when I was trap fishing this feb. They worked great but have not thrown them on topwater.

I'm a fan of the Mustad triple grips. For my spooks, I'll add a split ring and some triple grips and feel confident in my chance at landing fish. I always use mono for my topwater.

I throw a Yellow Magic a lot and i replace them only with replacement Yellow Magic hooks. I have tried other hooks but they seem to chamge the action of the bait.

I throw all topwaters except frogs on mono.

Changed out the hooks on several of my top waters with KVD triple grips and let me tell you they hook everything! Caught every fish that hit the bait, even foul hooked every Perch that swiped at my bait. No matter how small. Great hooks.

Bought my first yellow magic yesterday and was wondering if I should change the hooks. Should I?

my understanding is that you are supposed to use a round bend style hook for warmer water(fish slap at baits).. and the ewg style like the triple grips when fish engulf baits(cold water).

i have started appling this and it seems to work very well.

Are you talking about seasonal temps or depth temps?
