Has anyone tried to use pipe cleaners instead of chenille? I got some for my daughter recently and was wondering if anyone has tried that, they come in many different colors. I would like to add alittle weight to some of my flies.
Got plenty of lures but dad gum fish just wont cooperate. Wannabe fisherman in training.

They rust is what I hear, I wouldn't use them. If you want cheaper chenille, the craft stores has them in bundles in the yarn dept.

I used to use them on bass-sized woolly bugger-ish flies. You can get some pretty wild colors at Hobby Lobby sometimes. The weight is good. They didn't rust any worse or faster than the hooks.

It seems like you could use them to make some sort of semi-rigid leg structures or something...

Color bleeds, being exposed to moist air let alone water they rust an all the fuzz falls off....I tried several times I wanted them to work....a reason you don't see a bunch of flies that use them...they suck

Local austin hobby lobbies have "wireless pipecleaners" which are pretty much chinelle, but I think the color might fade quickly.. they are cheap though might be worth a shot
