Winnsboro has a really low catch rate(CPUE) for channel catfish. 3.6 fish per net night average. Compared to LOP which had 18.4 fish per net night. These surveys are by no means bulletproof, but I would trust them as an indication of what to expect from a lake that I was unfamiliar with.

For Monticello, I can tell ya there is a great channel catfish population there. I just can't make myself eat fish out of a power plant lake. I know alot of people who do, and most say the CCF from Monticello tastes better during the winter when water temps are lower.

Good luck!

Oh, and to answer your question, SHAD if available and worms if not! But don't take my word for it, I'm not a very good fisherman!
