Fished 7am to 4:30 pm. Caught 12 with a couple over 4 on chatterbaits and swimbaits around grass edges before 10am. Nada after that...the entire day. Fished shallow and deep and threw everything at them in the boat. Really surprised after a good start to the day. Fished mostly mid to upper lake. Winds we north one hour and south the next. Headed back for a half day tomorrow.
Anyone else fish it today?

5/14 - 5/15
Fished 3 shifts on Choke this weekend:
Saturday morning - went to our usual haunt and found 7 fish really fast early as the sun was coming up. Caught a nice 4-5lb on a spook. (Top water = the most fun you can have) We ran around and fished the north side of the lake in a lot of spots that we don't usually fish and found a few more totaling about 12 for the AM shift. Biggest was the 4-5 early on the spook. The rest came mostly on wood off of grass lines in 6-10FT on Green Pumpkin mostly.
Saturday evening - found a few here and there, then found a spot with a rock pile, and grass off of a point, IT WAS ON! Missed a few nice ones, but ended up landing about 20 fish in just over an hour. Nice ones about a 4 pound average. Lost a few in the 6 range right at the boat. Mostly catching them on the spook, so much fun!
Sunday Morning - we went back to our rock spot and proceeded to kick their asses. Lost count of the number of fish, probably 25 or 30 total and ended up with an 18LB stringer on 5 fish at 2:00PM. The spook was the ticket early again. Man I love those top water explosions! Caught one of our 2 biggest on a sweet beaver and a few others on shakey head and baby c-rig flukes.
Talked to a guide out there and said that Frogs early from the bank to the boat are good as well, their big was 6LBS on a frog early that hit just on the back of the grass.
I'm curious to see how our 18LBS stacked up against the South Texas 5 results. Anyone know if there is a website for them?

I'm camping at the State Park the 26th and 27th, at Calliham. I will be in a kayak and only have a couple hours each morning. Any suggestions for that part of the lake. First time at CC, where are the gators?
Thanks.

I landed a 8.62LB a week ago in between the boat ramp and the fishing jetty right at the calligham launch just off the grass line. Zara Spook Jr. Also, they like wackey cinco's there. Good luck. We launched out of South this weekend, or we would have hit that spot first thing every day.

Thanks. The gators are all over the lake. You only need to be scared if one attacks you, other than that, no problems. .gif)

Eh, thats not completely true. The gators mostly hang out in all the fishy looking areas. Stay out in the middle of the lake and you'll be fine.

Not another Choke gator thread, please.
I fished Sunday AM again, by myself, and had 11 fish by 10:45, again fishing spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in hydrilla pockets and over submerged grass. Caught 7 in the first hour alone in south shore cove. Anytime you see a fish bust the top early, throw a spinnerbait through there and they will bust it nearly every time. I'm sure the spook would get the same reaction. All fish nice healthy 2.5 to 4 lbers. My limit both Sat and Sun was close to 15 lbs.
KVP, tried the frog early Sun over some mats and failed to draw a strike. Didn't stick with it long though, so I'm sure it produces with as many fish are in the grass right now.

I fished last friday in opossum creek and found them biting early on chatter baits over grass and plum red worms in trees about 10 foot of water. chatter bait had the most action. caught one over 5lbs. found the bite on the worm is very soft. the wind doesn't matters much, but well worth fighting when the fish are biting.
where is south shore cove? I think I might have an idea but any help is greatly appreciated.
going this weekend ... I hope to tear them up.

South shore cove is at the South Shore State Park. Right next to the dam. Great water.

perfect.. thank you.. i have fished the shore by the dam, but will now try the bank in the cove. I also do very well by the old boat ramp cross the lake left of the fingers area.. nice drop offs and structure on the bottom in the secondary points.

Not sure about that Buddy. I hope to, but sounds like the wife wants to spend the weekend at the beach. I will let you know!
