I have a 2010 6.7 cummins. Has about 20K on it. I am thinking about switching over to synthetic oil in it.

How many of you out there run a synthetic and which one do you run, I will likely run rotela.

Second I used to alway run a can of sea foam through my gas in my old pickup to clean injectors and such at every oil change, I also do it in my brother and dads trucks(04-05 d-maxes), question is how will this affect my particulate filter i have on the '10 goat, the d-maxes dont have one so never worried about it.

thanks for any input

matt

There is (I'm sure) a Cummuns Diesel Forum where this is endlessly debated, however I am familiar with the Duramax Forum and many there like the products put out by Amsoil. Problem is i think it is mail-order only. Depending om where you live Diesel Kleen is available to clean your injectors as well as other products but some will mess with your particulate filter and I think sea foam is one.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

Rotella is a decent oil and one I'd use if I was going to do more frequent oil changes.

I use Amsoil but I do extended drains and I want to use that oil for long term use.

Save your money on the over rated synthetic and the seafoam Neither one is neccessary imo.

I run lucas injector cleaner in my ford with no problems with particulate filter. Have been told by my injection shop its important to treat new diesel because of low sulfur content. As for synthetic oil amsoil is the best but a bit pricey. I use delo 15w-40 LE (has to say low emissions or will plug exhaust filter) and change every 5000 miles.

I ran Rotella synthetic in my Cummins for a while but it wasn't worth the extra cost, no increase in mpg. A diesel is already designed to run 300,000 miles the way it is, the problem is the rest of the truck built around it falls apart. The problem with the new diesels is city folk (not saying you are one) buy them and all they do is idle, they are made to pull and be run hard, not babied. As far as injector cleaner BG makes one for diesels, it cost about $45 bucks and I found it at Napa and a few other shops have it too.
