Hope y'all don't mind me posting up again but here i go again... What are your preferences of bait to use for black drum in the winter time? How should I start preparing for the fishing later this year? Don't be shy and easy on this..lol I am a lady but when it comes to the outdoors I can rough it!
Thanks, Lady_Red

Hey Lady Red, My winter time prime bait for big black drum is fresh blue crab. One of my favorite fishing holes is the Surf Side Jetty. You wont be able to find the crabs at any bait shops, but Fiesta in Houston is usually pretty good about keeping them on hand live. You will just about strike a zero trying anything else in my book. ------------------ TexSafaris Outdoor Adventures

Blue crab has always been what I catch them on as well....
Pop the top shell off of the crab and break him in half, stick the half on a large hook with a egg sinker above a swivel and fish it on the bottom...sort of Carolina rigged.

he is right about the cut crab, but I have caught them on live shrimp killed when i put in on the hook, and cut mullet being the last bait. I have pulled some big black drum in the fall and it is a fun fight.

I fish the baffin bay area in the fall, I usually find a current, any water that is moving, near deeper holes is prime, if the fish are there, they are not picky, the best I found is to take live shrimp, pell it, and fish the bottom with the lighest weight possible, fresh dead is better than old dead shrimp....good luck

seen sea lice work for drum. Suspect those fish bites in crab would work. They make them in crab, right, Whopper?
