Hello again,
I have a question about croaker. I have heard that people eat croaker but I have known that they are used as bait too. I know you can eat whiting and use for bait but can someone help clear up the croaker question? Thx!

Yes you can eat croker and they are very good. The only problem is that it is hard to catch big ones sometimes.

Croaker are very good. I went to Cold Pass this past Saturday and caught a couple of croaker but was catching whiting and sand trout mainly. I was hoping for reds or specks but the fish that I was catching make great table fair.
I ended up bringing home 10 large whiting, 3 big croakers and a couple of the bigger sand trout. Enough to get a start towards the family fish fry in mid Oct.

croaker are excellent fish to fry, almost better than reds. try to get around to the spillway at baycliff around oct.-early december and fish a piece of dead bait on the bottom. the bigger croaker will be in there THICK. i have also heard that rollover pass has a big fall croaker run, but have never fished it. also, whitiing get bigger than what is normally caught on piers, the biggest i have ever caught is 15 in, and i have seen one off the texas city dike go 22in.

I will give directions from Houston....
Go I-45 south past League City. Take the F.M. 646 exit before you get to Dickenson.
Turn left on 646, east. Just stay on the road until it ends..(almost there will be a stop sign in Bacliff near the end...you should be able to see the bay right in front of you)
Take a right at the stop sign. This goes towards San Leon. About two miles, more or less you will cross a bridge right after spillway bait camp and pier. There is a park on the left..pull in and fish.
Sort of sit back and watch others for a little to see where to fish. Oh yeah....when you are reeling back in and getting close to shore....reel like mad...the rocks close to the bank are leader eaters.
