o.k here is a question for those of you that have really studied bass . I went out today to a little creek that is full of small 9-11 inch bass . I use this place to test out new lures and methods , well the fish would not bite .. I could see them and they seemed to be in pairs and any time a sunfish came close they would chase it away this was repeated all up and down the creek . all the bass seemed to be paired up and on guard but I could'nt see a nest or anything and I tried 12 differnt baits and differnt ways of retriving .. One finally did bite on a small topwater lure but that was the only strike the whole day .. I had one bass sitting about 5 feet from me just staring at me .. it would move away then come right back and just stare . I even bumped it with the lure to no avail.. went to a bigger lake and no bites could the same thing be happening under the deeper water that I can't see ? What does this behavior mean, and could the same thing be happening at a lake 4 miles from there ?

He might have been able to see you and therefore spooky. What kind of line were you using? With water that clear he may have been able to see that also.

If bar pressure is high they will not bite.

Hmm Dont belive the issue was sight related several of the fish were in deeper more murky water in which I have caught the fish just days ago but Blooper961 the pressure issue may be a hit the past couple of days the weather has been very cool in the early morning .. But what gets me is the couple thing the fish seem to be in pairs .. somthing I had not seen before in the same creek .
