I was fishing the other day and noticed a nice sized bass tailing in the shallows. As I approached I saw a smaller bass with the larger one and it seemed almost like they were doing a dance. The larger bass has pretty much stayed in the same spot but the larger one comes and goes.

Assuming this is spawning behavior, what part of the spawn is this?

Thanks!

The part just before they have a cigarette and cue up the Barry White music.

In all seriousness it sounds like a pair that is getting ready to do their thing.

Thanks! After the eggs are deposited, do they stay there for a while or do they drop them and leave? (As you can tell, I rarely see spawning behavior where I fish)

They will stay around a bit. You can usually get an idea where the "sweet spot" is from an area they are real defensive about on the bed. In addition bass will guard fry as well for a little while once eggs are hatched.

My question , how long does this take ? I mean when will they be back to feeding normally ! I have seen several small bass in a creek where I usually could go and catch them one after the other now I can run a lure in front of them go thru my entire arsanal of lures and I'm lucky if I get one bite in the whole day .
