Had repeat customers John, Roe, Whitney, Liz and Graham this morning. The weather was a tad chilly and the north wind was blowing pretty good. Checked a few humps and a point fairly out of the wind and only put 9 fish in the box for the first couple of hours. We decided to hit the main lake and found the fish really stacked up from 20-26ft on a ridge. Caught their limits in a little over an hour there. All fish caught on Ol'Ugly Slabs and yarn flies and flies by Flies-By-Night. Chartreuse and white was the color they wanted today on both. Tried white and it was not nearly as productive. The water had mud streaks from all the wind and rain we have gotten. Water temp was in the low 70's and was much warmer than the air temp. I'll have to post pictures when I get them. My neighbor who is in a high school photography class came along to snap some pics of the sunrise and fishing. Off the water by 11:00 so I don't know how the afternoon bite was today. School is almost out so I'll have weekday openings in June and July.

Spots or areas?

I have had phone calls recently wanting to know spots to fish, some wanting gps coordinates. My response is I don't fish spots, not that I don't want to help out but the truth is I fish areas. Now I grew up fishing spots, but that does not work consistently when you're after the striped variety of fish. The fish Saturday were on a drop off from a flat. This could be a mile long and you have to trust your electronics to find them. They were chasing bait and we would catch 20 or 30 then have a few minutes of nothing then they would come through again. Everytime I would get ready to hunt the school down again here they would come. Find the right size bait and you'll usually find the fish this time of year. Now, fishing for other species you can get away with fishing spots more, but to be consistent with striped fish using electronics is the key....unless they are on top of course!

Good report. I saw the same pattern Saturday afternoon. Get a few then have to chase em down again. Caught about 50 on Johnny's silver old Ugly. Mixed bag of big and small fish.
