A couple of buddies and I are thinking about heading down to Port A. the first weekend in August. It's been a long time since I've been down there. Looking for the best and most inexpensive place that we could stay, preferably with a kitchenette. Any help from you guys would be very helpful. Also, any tips on places to fish from or wade fish from. Thanks, Chris

I would try the double barr cottages.. low key and has a fish cleaning station. It is one block from the beach. Stay away from the shark reef resort and island retreat.. I have had some bad experiences at both places.. There are plenty of others.. go to www.portaransas.org and look at places to stay.. Bret

Just remember, it's cheaper to rent than own. Taxes increased 37% this year in Port A.

Though I don't live far from Port A. I've stayed at The Shark Reef a few times. $49 during the summer and $39 off season. Big rooms with a couch, microwave and a fridge....no kitchen though.

I really don't want to give my secret away but I feel that it would help you out a lot. Summer prices there in Port A are ridiculus at best during summer. The only way not to spend $100 a night, is not to stay on the island. We always stay at the Sea Breeze Cottages on Commercial St. there in Aransas Pass. I think it is about 70 dollars a night for a 2 bedroom 1 bath Cottage. It also has a huge living room that would sleep some people on the floor if they are willing. They are really clean, have a kitchen, BarBQ pit outside, Fridge/Freezer. It has lots of room and will sleep lots of people; feels like home. The drive to the ferry is about 10 mins. Make sure to get to the ferry early it will be packed. There is a fish cleaning station at the Marina across the street from the Cabins. You should give them a try, rip Info: Sea Breeze Motel and Cottage John or Linda Lahmeyer 1404 S. Commercial Aransas Pass, TX 78336 361-758-3014 Fax: 361-776-3498 www.seabreeze7.com

The Laughing Horse Lodge is by far the best. Double Barr is good too. Stay away from the Rock Cottages. All are on Ave G. Nevr use the ferry, go the other way through Corpus unless of course you are coming from the east.
