I am looking for a place on either the Guadalupe or Colorado rivers to go camping and run some lines for a couple days. I am hoping to find a camp ground any where east of I-35 with or near a boat ramp suitable to launch a small (15") bass boat. Does anybody here know of a private or public camping area like I describe? When school gets out I want to take my son and nephews camping for a couple days I figure some time on a nice river would be a great way to kick off the summer.

check on the gudalupe blanco river authority website and Lower Colorado River Authority websites for parks/campgrounds on those rivers. I visted a campground called Camp Wood Lake near Gonzales several years ago, it had access to the Guad right below the Lake wood Dam. The phone numbers to the parks are on the website, just call 'em, I found that is the best way to get good information. Good luck. Lake Wood at Gonzales is a great place to camp and fish. You can launch below the dam into the Guadalupe off a gravel bar, or you can launch into the lake and go up the river. There are camper hookups below the dam and some at the entrance that have a canal running in front of them and once you launce you can park your boat right at your campsite. The lake is actually like a wide spot in the river, but has lots of bass and catfish. If you decide to go to Lake Wood, PM me and I'll tell you a few things about navigating the lake.

I think there's a decent campground by the Colorado right off 71 about 10-20 miles west of Columbus. I've been meaning to take my all-welded jon there. I believe the water's deep enough in that area for you to run a small tiller steer boat around for a bit. Can't remember the name of the place, tho.
