Curious to see how many folks this has happened to. A couple years back we were fishing for Sandies on tawakoni. We saw lots of fish on the graph on the road by the pump station and gave it a try. About the 3rd hop on a cast, my line gets real heavy, like I have a tire or limb on my line. I can feel it moving so I hold on. Long story short, I foul-hooked a 60 lb blue cat on a medium bass rod with 12 lb line and actually landed him. Anyone else catch a fish you were not equipped to handle?

I caught a 10 pound flathead this winter on a 4' ultra-lite crappie rod no reel just a line holder in a brushed out boat slip on 6 pound test line. With a lot of luck and my hand for a drag I got it in but i'm sure my buddy David got a good laugh watching it all go down.

Slabbing on Lewisville four weeks ago near the dam, I hooked into something that took out steady drag for a few minutes then just got off. Thought my rod or line was going to break. Had to be a huge cat but no slim on the hook or line. Wish I could have see that fish.

My 8 yr old did catch a 40lb black drum on one of those Emmrod coil casting Rods with 8lb test last year. The fish was as big as he was.

I foul hooked a 14lb flathead on an ultralight spinning reel and landed it after about 30 minutes. Hooked it near its tail and had to wade out in the water to keep from getting completely spooled a couple of times.

FYI: For Lubbock anglers. This was in the Playa at Quaker and the loop when I was in school about 12 years ago.

Caught this on Ray Hubbard a couple of years ago on a small crankbait. 10 pound line and an All Star PRM rod. I was using flurocarbon line. It pulled drag so many times the line was done after landing the fish.

Caught a 10lb blue cat while fishing for sunfish on a 5' UL with 4lb mono. Took me about 15 mins to get him in.

Was wading a spot at base of sabine jetties on la side 5 years ago with a spoon, 7 light action trout rod and 15 big game on a curado 200. Got a hit set hook and proceeded to be darn near spooled. I had maybe 25 feet left on reel when made it back to boat to give chase. Thirty min later put a 25 lb jack crevelle in the boat. Weighed it and let it go. I hope i can do it again one day

Caught a smallmouth buffalo on the Colorado last year on a 5 weight fly rod with 8 lb leader. Landed it after fighting it for about 45 minutes. Got taken to my backing twice... Well over 35 pounds.

Ihave 2 times that I got very lucky. The first was several years back I was fishing the Galveston Jetties. We were chumming with pogie for sharks, jacks,reds....whatever would bite. We had 2 big rods out for big fish and I was using a 6'6" bass rod with 15 lbs Big Game and a 2 foot 45lbs wire liter trying to catch spanish mackeral. I had a huge swirl and my line took off. After along battle I pulled up about 100lbs Black Tip on my bass rod! Extremely Lucky

The other time I was fishing the Rigs out past sabine jetties. We were using 6'6" rods with 15bs big game with no liters because the spanish mackeral could see them (we were aout 1/10 in landing the spanish w/out the liters). I hooked up on big fish and fought it for a while. I landed about a 30 lbs king mackeral. This is only the 2nd time Ive hooked a King and both times they were on Bass rods. The 1st time I hooked up as a kid.. I got spooled!

I was trout fishing in beavers bend, and I had a 4' ultra light with 4 lb. mono. I hooked a 9 pound hybrid he striped all my line but about 5 foot cuz I stopped it with my hand. Took me about 15 minutes to land. A couple years before that my dad caught a 18 lb. channel same set up but 6 lb. test, it took him like 45 minutes.
