God willing, I will be going down to Rockport this weekend. I've rented a place for two nights.
I plan on doin as much fishing as I can from one of the piers down there. Usually fish for cats so I really don't know how to target saltwater fish.
I've got two heavy rods rigged carolina style, each with a 2 ounce sinker and a 1/0 khale hook. Also have two cheap zebco rods with them cheap little reels. I usually rig them with floats to catch bream, or just fish for cats.
Anyway, I need advice as to the proper rigs and bait I should use to target whatever the heck kinda fish live in the saltwater.
Thanks.

Carolina rigged live piggy perch (just like a shinner) will do. Ask a local or someone at a bait camp to hook you up for trout with a "popping cork". You can hammer the trout and occassional reds fishing around lights at night.
Hope that helps.
Oh and tie a barrel swivel on your line then add a 3-4' piece of 20-25 mono leader.

Thank you.
I've already got my heavy rods rigged with 20# braided line and 20l# mono leaders.
I've got some slip bobbers for my lighter tackle, will these work around the lights just as good?
What kind of bait, shrimp? Squid? Minnows or perch of some sort?

Forget the closed face reels. Salt water will clog them up after a few casts and you won't even be able to crank them. After fishing be sure and rinse your reels in fresh water thoroughly. Have fun!

Thanks everyone. Are you sure the salt water will kill my close faced reels? I remember using one before down there a few years back and I don't remember having that problem.

J Rose I Bait fished for Piggy Perch and Croakers with a Zebco 202 last time I was in Port A. It did just fine but you'll need to rinse it out real good each day after you get back in. Of course if you get a Big Red hooked up on the Zebco's .. Well I hope you brought extra line... LoL Bazz
