Here in Florida this is one of the most popular baits for both inshore and offshore fishing: http://www.flfish.com/baitfish/threadfin_herring.htm We catch them with a castnet in the bay and under bridges and use them live and frozen as bait. How does that compare with Texas? Are you allowed to use a castnet for catching your bait?

_Hey Kahuna: Hope your recovery is going well! _Yes we have Alewife/ Shad that resemble freshwater threadfin shad, and you can use a cast net to obtain them. Just be aware that we have Oyster Shoals that will turn a cast net into garbage real quick. _Shrimp, Crab, Piggy Perch, and Croaker are most often used for live bait (Trout & Redfish) along the Texas coast. Offshore Piggy Perch and Hardtails are used for live offerings. _When you get your inshore fishing license and Saltwater Red fish tags..beshure to pick up a Texas Fishing and Hunting handbook. There are reguations that can varry from season to season and along the different areas of the Texas coast. _Best to be aware of the livebait netting regulations for your area Yall. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bazztex<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Kahuna, As Bazztex said, we use cast nets for our inshore baits. As a rule we buy our basic offshore bait, but try to use sabiki's for hardtails/whatever for live offshore bait.

Good thing that no money can buy the satisfaction of a great day on the water. Once you burn a 100 gal. of gas you do not want to calculate fish cost per pound. Being out there and doing it one more time is priceless.

The fish I eat always cost the same, I eat very little fish. It's the sport and the BLUEWATER!
