So my buddy castnetted a black crappie that was about 9 inches. I know they're in the creek we fish. My question is, what would be the best approach to catch them on a non-pressured place without having any other species messing with the lure/bait? Never eaten crappie so would love to fill a stringer. Thanks in advance guys.

+1 on the jigs or minnows... They are even better eating than black bass.

I like to use a slip-bobber rig for creeks.
It gives you easily adjustable depth change and easy
to put it in tight places, tree tops, brush, etc.
I use 20# braid and a quick lock for either a wire minnow hook #2 or jigs.
There's nothing more frustrating, to me, to snap a light mono and
have to retie the whole rig. With my setup I either straighten the hook or sometimes I'll
use a 4" 10# mono leader.

Now it's difficult to keep those ole green carp off but if you
go deeper when you get one the crappie will be there.

Find you a real crappy jig and fish it near any stumps, or lay downs you find. Try different depths until you find a patttern.
Good Luck
