After they went 85mph they stoped to fish and caught a 18 LBer on 4# test.

It sounds like he greatly exaggerated the speed. He says towards the end of the article. "As far as top-end speed, there might have been a little difference, but it was just too rough to tell for sure." If you're more than doubling your speed I think you would notice

This is Complete & Total BS! I know, I know.. I read it on the internet so it has to be true. I am far from an expert but I have owned 7 Bullets and two Allisons over the years all with more than 250 h.p. I will tell you this... There are about 0.01% of all bassboats tournaments rigged that will run 85 mph. It is painfully obvious that this guy doesn't have a clue about gear ratios, prop pitch, and rpms. When a manufacturer lists the gear case as a 2:1 ratio, they are saying the motor turns 2 revolutions for each revolution of the prop. On a 2.3:1 gear ratio it means now the motor is turning 2.3 revolutions per each revolution of the prop. A stock Merc 250 ProXS comes with a 1.75:1 gearcase. You can order a 1.62:1 case like I have run on my last two Bullets. The 1.62 case is a TALLER gear than the 1.75, not a lower gear ratio. So running a 26 pitch prop on a 1.62 case is like running a 29 pitch on a 1.75 case. Get it?? The caveat here is that with the taller gear you lose holeshot. Kind of like driving a stick shift and taking off in 2nd gear... This is a prop slip calculator from Mercury Racing that I use to figure boat speed, prop slip, rpms, etc. http://www.mercuryracing.com/propellers/propslipcalculator.php To run 85 mph with a 16" pitch prop on a 2.3:1 gearcase you would have to turn the motor 15,000 rpm's! If the boat they tested had a 16" pitch prop like they stated and turned it 5,000 rpms like they stated, with a 2.3:1 lower unit like they stated, even with no prop slip (which is impossible) they would be running a BLISTERING 33 mph! This speed sounds about right for a 115 of any brand on a 21' bassboat. The guy that wrote this article is a Moron! I refer everything speed related to Ken. I've seen him at Fork.. for a split second!

so maybe they took the 33MPh it ran, multiplied by the 1.6 gear ratio which is 53MPh and then converted to metric which is 85KMh.
Yeah, that's it.

I,m the one that did the testing and I know the guy that wrote this. It is a typo. The boat would do 55MPH not 85MPH it is just a typo. Also it was on a 18ft boat not a 21ft boat. He is also talking about a flats boat which is what they are running these motors on and they can get on pad in just 1/2 a boat length.

Ken's grammer and text makes me beleive....sounds like he knows his facts and Yeaitsme...That's just funny!!
I recalculated the math Ken and the actual MPH would be 35.79... to be exact!
