I'm going to have to go get some of that Monster bait. I'll check Academy and Gander mtn tomorrow.
Gar Man, I've heard about the arsenic at that lake. I've also heard you're not even supposed to fish there... As well as Finfeather lake near that. Did I hear wrong? I'd like to fish there if it's allowed.

I am not aware of regulations but astin park is a public bryan park with a fishing pier on the lake so I assume it's okay. I saw some people with a cooler of about ten 12inch cats there awile back. They do have a park curfew at night though

George Bush Library has some good bass fishing there but only when they stock it...If you get skunked, take some live bait out there next time (gold fish and or minnows), you will not be disappointed.
Research Park is the best all around bass pond(s) here in town. Your not allowed to fish there, but the avg. catch of 4 lbs. bass is what keeps me coming back. Largest bass caught there for me was about 8 lbs. and several more in the 5+ range. TAMU are idiots for not allowing people to fish in there, George Bush is catch and release, why not there? oh well...
Gabbard Park off of Holleman is good bass pond as well, but only when the duck moss is covering the pond in the summer. Scum frogs and weedless lures work best. Gabbard used to be a kick [censored] bass pond back in the day, but when they renovated the bank area's it pretty much went down hill from there. Oh, and if your looking for cut bait, this pond is the place to go for bluegill...I catch well over 50+ within 45 min every time i go, it's ridiculous
And the pond across the Police station, the one by the cemetery, may look a dump and probably a complete oddity but you will some ok fishing there...Summer time is ok when there is duck moss a float. Never caught any bass, but the gar there love the top water action
hope this helps

Oh, and stick with the CJ"s punch bait, works a whole lot better than the other nonsense sold at the stores. Shad is the more consistent one, a lil more dryer than the other baits so it stays on a lil longer and is a bit more malleable. Monster bait by CJ's works well too.
And dude, dont be a sissy like most people on here and use a stick to dip the hook in there, put on a glove and use your hands to mold it better on the hook. It's fishing, your gonna stink anyways so why the heck are you afraid of getting your hands just a bit more dirtier and messy? If you do get a lil on your hands, get some hand sanitizer and some dish soap...It may take a few scrubs to get the stank out but hell, so does getting the fish smell off.

I hit a couple ponds today.
I went over to the pond behind the Bryan Target and fished for perch. Caught about 18 between two of us in less than 45 min. They kept snatching our worms and not taking the hook. We were using a size 8 hook.
After that, we headed over to Central Park. I caught two catfish within the first 15 min, and then nothing for the rest of the time (45min). Surprisingly, the two cats were 12-15". I wanted to get some CJ's, but they didn't have any so we just used "Magic" stinkbait.
UltraLite: I've fished at Gabbard. I had no luck with bass. I did catch about 4-5 tiny catfish. That's about it. I'll have to check the bass out in summer. Do you get chased away from Research park? I'm tempted to go out there. I've seen people fishing. I just don't want to get in trouble... What are you using out there?

yea used to when we were kids, I havent been chased out in several years though. They just tell you to leave and that's it
For bait, well you go with the rule of thumb of small ponds, small lures. Use small Cranks, like the size of a small rebel lures. 2-4 ft diving rang, too many snags out there... Small 2-3 inch tubes and regular sized plastic worms. or any other small plastics or hard baits

Fellow Aggie Angler here. I've only caught one fish behind sams and I've thrown a ton of stuff at them, pretty sure it isn't private. There's a little twerp on a moped who will run you off at the Bryan Municipal golf course. I've only caught one fish out of the pond behind the Brazos center, but from everything I've heard, there are still some good fish in there since it does have a lot of water. At the entrance to Traditions CC, there is a pond on the right immediately when you turn off of Villa Maria. Went out there today and caught a couple chunks on a white spinner.

The pond behind Sams is actually a great place to fish once you figure it out. We stopped fishing there after the spawn though. we also stopped because the pond is so filthy it gets our gear dirty.
The thing about that pond is you wont catch a damn thing on the side you pull up on. You'll need walk around to the side parallel to the highway, and fish in between the island towards the direction of sams club.
If it was deeper you could fish the cove you see when you first pull up, but thats way to shallow now.
During spawn we were averaging 2.5 lb bass (we weighed), and saw a 4 lber come out. Most people will tell you they've seen 8-10 lb bass in there, but in all honestly we've not seen any evidence of it (though there probably are some huge fish).
I tried going to the pond by target off briarcrest. In two trips I've only caught 2 fish, one was about 2lbs though, so not terrible.

Sammy, the pond by target is primarily Perch. I have fished for other things but had no luck. However due to a tip on here, I tried just a 8 size hook with a worm + bobber and we were pulling small perch out fast.

Fished some places again this past weekend...
Central park: Caught two cats about 13". My friend caught one that was MAYBE 5". It was tiny. I couldn't believe it took the bait.
Brothers pond: Nothing. No bites.
Gabbard park: Caught about 5 cats at about 10" a piece.
Target pond/Brazos Center: Lots of bluegill. It's fun. As soon as your bait hits the water, the bobber starts going. Probably caught nearly 20 in less than 45 min. Interestingly enough, I caught a 10" LM bass on a bobber with a tiny pan fish hook and worm. My roommate also caught a small LM bass on a rat-l-trap.
