a friend of mine just purchased an older champion with a 175 on it.He came by today and asked me a funny question,he said while he was fishing the kykx tournament when he was running the big motor,he said every time he touched any metal part of the steering wheel it would shock him.any way could he have a bare wire touching the steering cables?i just told him he was cursed.

Sounds like a bad ground or multiple grounds.......

first off 12volts dc can't shock you if he is getting hit its from the high power side of the engine.
coils, alternator, etc.
does it have an ampmeter? if so check to see if one of the wires are touching something.

Wiring problem, first check all of the grounds on the outboard motor.
