Please post what engine size, year and a picture if possible . Is the valve on the engine or in the boat?

NO-NO-NO-NO! You never start the motor using the flush attachement that is built in from the factory. You are "flushing" the motor. Meaning all contaminations in the engine is running backwards of it's normal water cooling route. So when flushing, you are forcing water from the power head down to the impelller and by running the motor, you are trying to make the water pump force water back to the power head. Henceforth: You run the risk of water pump failure, blowing the high pressure by-pass valve out , and trashing your thermostats.
