Fished Houston County on Saturday looking for big bass. We caught several 3 1/2 to 4 pouners early on top waters and wore out a 10 in. worm with no takers. Things went dead until about 10:00 when we switch to a 5 in. swim bait and began to catch bass in the pads. Still no large fish but we had 25 bass 2-3 lb. Two might have pushed 4 pounds. It was a blast! The lake is in great shape. It is normal pool, clear and full of hydrilla and lilly pads. Right now the hydrilla is mostly submerged and easy to fish. Also checked the bream beds just to see if any had moved in and found none. This may be the best bream lake in the country. We break out the fly rods as soon as that happens. contact us for a trip. fishingcosper@hotmail.com

Wow. I had no idea they had sprayed and saw nothing that would indicate it. I was thinking that it was thick enough to be a problem later in the summer. You know, where it covers large areas. It was good enough fishing that I plan to fish it this week. Will post what happens.

Fished Houston County yesterday. Confirmed that the lake was sprayed about 3 week ago. We could not tell that anything was happening except that some of the tops of the grass seemed to be a pale green. It was another good day but all small fish. We fished shallow and caught fish, all on a swimbait (white pearl color) and a few on traps. We tried deep 12-15 ft but no bites. Couldn't stay out of the pads and patchy grass; it was too much fun.

I talked with a chemical rep the other day. He said they used sonar on the hydrilla. If they went with a low dose it may just knock the grass down and it will be back next year. If it was a full strength dose my guess is that it will be gone in 45-60 days and will not be back next year. I was really excited about going and fishing the grass until I heard about it being sprayed.

I went Today and grass is dying in a major way. The lake has been really good for the last 2 years. The areas with hydrilla held virtually no fish. Same areas had been full of fish prior to spraying. The home owners voted on it. The lake has potential for greatness but will never achieve the glory of the 80's because they will not allow the habitat needed to support it. I expect a dead swamp at least the rest of the year
