Hello fellow anglers. First let me say that it is great that a forum like this exists. I moved to the Woodlands Texas about a year ago from Florida. I have been bank fishing around local lakes for a few months and I have not been very impressed. My wife and I are finally settled in and I just bought a new 2 man electric fishing boat specifically for fishing in Lake Woodlands. I thought there would be better fishing by boat on this lake but so far I am finding the fishing is far more difficult in Texas then in Florida. I have enjoyed some fun boat rides but I am dying to catch some fish. Is there anyone out there that can give me some tips on boat fishing on Lake Woodlands? If someone is whiling to trade me some local fishing knowledge I will be happy to take you out on the lake. Thanks for reading my post.

I absolutely wish I could help you on Lake Woodlands, but I too have not caught any fish there...

I have some buddies that have caught catfish & bass in there, but quite frankly, that 'Lake' is not my kinda place...

I fish Conroe quite often, but lately, I've been digging the whole saltwater thing... Which is probably more your cup of tea anyway being from Florida, but I might be wrong...

Wanna hit the coast tomorrow? ;-)

I was down in Houston last year on a job and found this out. Lake Woodlands IS hard to catch fish on, but there is a local website that posts info. Google it.
I think that site mentions the deep part around and north of the bridge and where the two arms meet as being good. Of course right now some of the bass might be up shallow guarding the fry.
There are lots of smaller ponds in The Woodlands that are listed and commented on in that website, most in neighborhoods. Some of them you might have to drag a boat or kayak quite a ways to get to them, so bank fishing (with snake boots) might be best. Lake Woodlands, though, you really need a kayak or small boat to fish.
One thing I kept meaning to do is to launch a kayak before dawn (at the one boat ramp) or at evening and topwater fish around the bridge lights.

Also, this thread belongs maybe under Bass Fishing, not under partner finder.
About Lake Conroe, the standard wisdom there is to find the brush piles (all the locals have those marked on GPS) in about 20 ft of water and fish those. You can catch 4 to 7 lbers on those piles.
Another option (2 hrs away) is the power plant lake, Lake Lafayette near Lafayette, TX (that lake also called, for some reason, on the maps "Cedar Creek", not to be confused with the big Cedar Creek further north).

eyc0r. Thanks for the response. I think you are right about the coast. I would like to try that for sure. I think my boat is ideal for flats and bay fishing however I need to try it out in some bigger water like Conroe first just to be sure of its reliability. So far it has been a good little boat. Let me know if you want to try Conroe sometime in the next week or so. Take care and thanks again for responding to my post eyc0r.
