You will NOT sell your gear!
You will be on the next trip!
I've been on a trip that I hurt my back so badly I couldn't see peoples faces.
One of my other fishing buddies was on another trip with me and spent the whole trip sick in his bunk.
We all have good trips and less than good trips. That is part of fishing and living.

try a trip on the big e before you give up on the deepwater fishing. the bunks are larger and you should be able to sleep a lot easier. no diesel fumes and a lot softer ride. i fished on the dolphin one time and would never venture back to port aransas for that night mare again. i fished the big e 2 weeks ago and was able to sleep on her. i am a private boater and do over night trips on my boat but only get short naps while offshore. to many things to worry about when your in charge of every ones safety. i have also fished of several multi day trips in custom sportfishers and i slept better on the big e than any other boat except maybe a cruise ship....rick

SkeeterRonnie,

Come to the Lump this winter. Fish a smaller boat. Find out what this is all about.

I have been sea sick once on a boat. I learned to chum and fish at the same time. I do not take anything to make my sleepy. (barley pops don't count)

I have also found the joy of watching others catch fish, get into tangles amd catch personal bests.

The only way to find your limits is to push and explore them. You have to step outside your limits to learn where they are. You have not let anyone down. So long as you do not let yourself down.

Hold your head up and get to planning the next trip. I would love your company.

skeeter, don't know ya and only registered here today but I'll fish with ya. folks only had good things to say about you it seems.
Why the patch:ever been seasick before or just being cautious. If never before than give it a go with out it.
Rest:I try to be rested when I get on the boat, but doesn't always work. on top of that I try to sleep on the way out. that way when you stop you are at your prime. then sleep when going from place to place. prob with this is that you don't get to meet as many people and bs as much when you sleep as much.
If you do tend toward sickness, try some antivert-over the counter, or ginger snaps. shouldn't knock you out. as a matter of fact, take an antivert several days before your trip to see what effects it has on you.
Bad trip: it happens, don't give up. seems like I slept more than half the time on our 4 day gem trip this year. got on the boat tired and never caught up. use the alarm clock. sometimes its rough-sometimes not, sometimes the fish bite and others they don't, etc. each trip is different, learn something on each trip-that will make the next trip just that much better.

the patch was to insure against sea sickness. I have never tried it without. I guarantee I will be takng a 12 hour this spring to test myself.

I cant give up. My girlfriend TOLD me I was not selling my gear- I could only upgrade...And she said I WOULD be on the next one. She also said I needed enough for her to use as well. Gotta love her!
Thanks for the inspiration from everyone! Now I can mark down in the "lesson learned book" to NOT USE SCOPOLOMINE! I was out and physically could not raise up to get out of bed...It was like I was on a sleeping pill. I could hear the tuna hit the deck and wanted to get out of bed- but was back asleep before I knew it. I have fished bass tourneys for two days in a row with only a few hours sleep each night and never thought once about sleeping. I do know I like spinning rods for YFT fishing!! Virtually backlash free and casting distance is very good! Thanks Jerry for helping me get that rig and getting it spooled up! Every fish I caught at night was on knife jigs on the spinning gear!! My NEW favorite!!!

ring is on the way. Wedding is december 2006. We will be at Orange Beach, AL for a full week next summer. Dont worry- I will be contacting you for offshore contact info. She insisted I upgrade equipment and get her some as well. Also told me i AM taking her crappie fishing this sunday whether its cold or not....asked her why we were going fishing for "bait"????

I think I could have handled "sick" better than overly drowsy. I can fight a fish and chum all at the same time if need be...lol

You'll fish fer bait and enjoy it too.

I know. Been there.

Crappie or crappy. You went fishing and she didn't. He who plays has to pay.

I know. I have a 13 yr old that is as hard core fisherman as you could ask.

I get to take my best buddy fishing now. It does cost me twice as much!!???

Be careful the bed you lay as a tackle 'ho. LMAO
I buy fer two now myself. OH! the joy!!!!

If you need tackle ho help, just ask McGolfer. He has inspired many.

Skeeter, if I've said it once I've said it at least more than once. Meclizine ( Bonine ) IS the sea sickness med to take. It has absolutely no side effect. It might be a placebo for all I know. Bmanning and another friend recommended it to me and it has not failed. No effects and no sickness. And NO drowsiness.

Also, I went to bed after you and missed the YFT / Flying fish action. I wanted to be rested for the AJ and Saturday night YFT action. Never dreamed we would be going in. Had really wanted to land a cow on my new rig but didn't. Just never know what is going to happen. Regret my decision now cause hind sight is 20/20. If we had of fished Saturday and you had caught a bigun you probably would have not felt this way. Man when I'm that tired I cant wake up for anything. Personally, for myself, I think I made the right decision to hit the bunks. I felt great Saturday evening and would have been on top of my game had we been able to fish that night.

Skeeter,
You'd best get that ring on her as fast as you can!
I'll be making one or two 12 hour runs between now and the new year, they're not tuna but just fun trips, want to join me.
