Im trying to decide between getting flourocarbon or braid. I want braid because of the low stretch but i don't want to get less hits because they see the line. Maybe should i get braid with a flouro leader? if so, how do i rig the leader on?

Both have their time and place. Most of the time, there is a way to use braid. I would much rather be using braid and use it most of the time. But there are instances when I feel like I need to use fluro.

I pretty much only use braid.

The waters I normally fish are heavy stained and muddy, so its pointless for me to use flouro.

I also sometimes snag on a sunken log, but the strength of braid yanks my lure back with a chunk of wood as well.

If youre normally fishing clear or lightly stained water, then it would be a good idea to use a flouro-leader.

I was watching a fishing show a month or so ago and cant remember the name but they said if you buy a spike it pen with the notch in the tip cut out and go a foot or two above your knot, that it helps hide the braid in clear water. Dont know if it works or not I cant find any of the pens locally. Has anyone heard of this?

I alway's use a sharpie or magic marker 2 or 3 feet above the knot.

Im not a fan of braid unless on a spinniing rod with a long floro leader. I have seent floro or mono outfish braid 6-1 on Fork several times!

If I am fishing topwater, I tie my braid straight to the lure. I will occasionally tie spinnerbaits straight to braid as well, particularly in stained/muddy water.

In my opinion, if you are using slower finesse style techniques, like a jig or a Texas rigged worm, you should use a leader. I use mono and fluoro, depending on the application.

I splice my leaders to my braid with a uni to uni knot.

Used to use braid on just about everything, switched to flouro two years ago and have gotten way more bites. That being said, I never broke off on a hook set with braid unlike flouro.

If you choose to use braid with a fluoro leader there are several knots to use to join the two together.
Surgeons knot, blood knot, double uni, and the modified albright special.
The only bait I tie directly to braid is a top water frog or a ZTOO

What kind of knot on fluoro to the hook? I have seen several different, complicated knots demonstated on u-tube, but don't know which is best. Last tournament I broke off my fluor leader twice at the hook, so I need to improve my knot. I have not often broke the uni to uni knot from braid to fluoro, but when I did, probably it was a bad job tying it.

for flourocarbon to hook, use the palomar knot. used it for years and it has never let me down.
