How do you set the hook when your fishing a frog? do you wait a sec. or two? I had a half dozen strikes tonight, but only one solid set, I eventually lost that fish as well. Just trying to improve, any tips?

I just wait till my line gets tight then I set the hook. It might take a sec or two. When they smash the surface just resist the urge to set until your lines tight

braid , 7' med heavy or bigger, and patience

Next time u get a bite, don't even set the hook. Just watch and see how long they will hold on to it. That'll make u relax a bit and take your time.

The fish I caught this year on frogs i would do my best to not look at it and wait for the tug on the line and then set the hook. If I watch the lure I tend to get too excited.
My best bass this year came via frog, I casted on a rocky bank saw a flash of gold, an explosion actually waited til I felt a tug on the line and hook set, then the fight was on.

I've had the same problem and I left more of my hook out of the frog and it has helped.

When you see the frog go down, the fishes mouth is still open. Remember they act like a giant vacuum, so wait until you think they have closed their mouth, then cross their eyes!

I need to get better too. My ADD gets the best of me and I set to quick. Someone told me once to take my hand off the reel when not reeling in and that is enough time to let the hook set.
Justin8688 on here is scary good with the hook sets. Don't think he has missed one yet in my boat.
I haven't fished frogs much but this year I plan too. Got about 5 frogs I want to try this year.

keep the rod tip up if it is a long cast, and when they hit- just drop the rod and point it at them until the line goes tight then set the hook. if you have rod tip down and walking the frog. when they hit- same thing- lift rod tip up and point at fish until the line goes tight then set.
certain instances, you cant do this because they will spit the frog.. sometimes you have to learn exactly how long you have to set the hook. i have had them where I had to just lean into them as soon as they popped the toad or they would spit it.

I don't think about it. I just hit them hard. Maybe I'm just slow at reacting but I have a very high hookup ratio and i don't wait.

+1 all the above Braid line Wait to set
also heres a good mental note about frog fishing
Use a frog hook!! You will loose more fish, tear more frogs, and lose your mind
STICK THE POINT OF THE HOOK INTO THE SPLIT BUT DONT LET THE BARB PENETRATE THE FROG. Keep your hook in there just right so its weedless but if anything attacks it......whooohaaaa
