I've been hitting it hard this year, and I just keep coming across channel cats and gar; none of the big blue cats I'm after.
I've been catfishing for about three years now and really want to reel in one of those 25lb+ big boys, can't find them to save my life. Any suggestions of places to go in Lewisville are much aprreciated!!

IMO you are a little late for the big blues. Most of the bigguns are spawning now. If you really want to go after big ones you might try from November to March.

It is not your location. If you are working wind blown banks and water between 2'-15'you are on top of the fish.Your rigs or bait may be holding you back.Fresh shad on a santee cooper rig will produce nearly every time on the water.

Man, you guys are awesome! Just to be certain I'm coming prepared, I'm running two 7' Berkley cherrywood graphites with basspro extreme reels (used to do a LOT of bass fishing, switched to cat a few years ago as mentioned).
Rods are medium/heavy and I plan on upgrading from 14lb mono to heavier braided.
A big concern is my gear. Based on yall's experience, will these rigs hold up?
Guys, thanks again for all the help! I'll definitely be in touch via PM to get together.

Get you a ugly stick or pro angler. Around the same price. When my new reels get here might have a 6500 I'll sell cheap.

I'd be happy to help you out with one of my instructional blue catfish trips. If you do book with a guide, book with a CATFISH guide. And specify what you are wanting to learn. I put my customers on catfish year round. There are better times to target the bigger fish, but they can still be caught now. Feel free to visit my website for more information about my services along with photos of lots of satisfied customers holding plenty of big fish.
