David they eat the minnow eggs too. They will eat anything they can catch or find.
As far as the 22cal go's yes I know they skip on the water but Im in the county.I bow hunt hogs on the place. Most were hitting the dam( water is low) or the tree's. I could use the 30-06 or the SKS but that will cost more lol. Some of the hits you could hear. Some time the turtles would flip on the water.

Yeah, they will eat anything they can catch but they just can't catch much. I doubt that they can eat fish eggs but could easily destroy a nest. Of course, catfish and small bluegill destroy more nests than turtles.
If you think about it, 99.9% of the eggs laid never develop into a breeding size fish.
That's Mama Natures plan.

As Bankside Bartman mentioned above, make 2-3 turtle traps out of PVC 4'x4' or 5'x5' and wrap the chicken wire around and under the bottom to have a depth of at least a foot or so under the PVC. Set a 1x6 across the top of the basket and when the turtles climb up and onto the board, they slide off at the sight of anyone coming up or just to get back into the water...then you have them caught. Then dipose of as you see fit. Similar to this one - http://www.texastastes.com/p239.htm#1450Good luck

plastic garbage can with holes in it (to fill with water) a board on top (for turtles to climb on) and a rope (to retrieve it)

I used steeel shot in my shotgun, got rid of a bunch that way, don't have aproblem any loner and the steel shot doesn't contaminate the water That's about $15 for a box of shells bro, .22s are a cheaper route for sure.

you oughta reload your shells
Give man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach man to fish, he'll sit on a boat and drink beer all day.

Well it paid off. I have been seeing some dead one washing up with the high winds. Only counted 13 live turtles today and they were all small.

CCI .22 LR minimags+polarized sunglasses+lots of turtles=not so many turtles. If you are standing on a bridge or dock and shoot down on the turtles, then your chances of ricochet are minimal. Shooting them with those minimags is fun, because you see chunks fly everywhere, see a red-orange cloud in the water, and know you have a direct hit.

We shoot turtles after the fishing slows down. After killing a few the fish start biting again.
