I would bet turtle to! When it was pulling drag was it goin fast or was it just pulling slow and steady?

Could of been somebodies pet Algae Eater. Me and a friend were fishing in Resoft Park a few years back with catfish poles when he hooked into something big after fighting it for a hour his 3olb line snapped. He wrapped the line around his pole and we both just started pulling hard towards the bank thinking it was a big catfish turned out to be a 25lb Algae Eater that someone had released in the pond ages ago. Took it home and it lived in my kids old pool for a few days.

I know this guy that caught a 50+ lb catfish on the river (back in Kansas) and took it home and put it in his one acre pond.

Every now and then somone would hook it and fight would be on until the cat got tired of it and broke the line.

I've caught several turtles that made me think I was stuck. Normally once you brake their grip to the bottom it's smooth sailing.Unless you want your hook back. I normally cut my line close to their heads.

I used to fish bessies creek a bunch a couple years back and a small 4 acre pond we had on our farm in Brookshire, which is right down the road from you. I had a very similar situation occur while fishing for catfish with a couple buddies and yanked out an alligator snapping turtle that had a shell almost as big as my torso. Hooked him in the neck and I guess he didn't have the presence of mind to snap mpy 30 lb mono.

Agree. I landed a 10 lb turtle while out fishing with Dre last week, Had a big thump then nothing but pressure on the line. When I got it close enough to see what it was it was a huge turtle. Snapped my line before I could get a pic. It hit on a black/blue Wooly Hawg T=rigged.
