I was fishing the dam/spillway area on the east lake around noon on Sunday when I heard this loud, humming sound which I assumed was just another bass boat running the lake. I turned around and looked to see if I could see a boat, but didn't see one. Next thing I know, the humming gets louder and closer, and as I look up this huge swarm of bees goes flying by at what seemed like 20 mph or so.
I can't believe how loud it was. I guess it was because there were hundreds of them. They came past me from over the lake and went over the dam and toward the woods over there. I have no way of knowing if they were killer bees, but they sure sounded like they meant business and I was glad they didn't not notice or perceive me as a threat! Anybody else ever see something like that?

I've seen and heard them at Falcon a few times but never anywhere else. Pretty freaky!

I had the same thing happen to me on choke canyon April of 2010. Scared the carp out of me, big black ball came buzzing right over us moving at about 20+.

My dad did bees and when they swarm they usually are not any problem. They are following a queen looking for a new home so they are busy. But it is a little freaky. My dad use to go and handle bees with out any gear on just normal clothes. I got stung too many times helping him.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

I saw a swarm in the Design Center in Dallas about 3 weeks ago hovering over the street. No joke they were a car lane wide, 20-30 feet tall and about 20-30 feet long, I swear probably 20,000-30,000 of them if I had to guess. I have never seen anything like it in my life so I called animal control and the lady pretty much laughed at me. I said Mrs., this is the craziest thing I've ever seen and she told me to call a bee keeper it wasn't there problem and she really didn't believe me. I told her No, I made my call do what you will but, the group of bees I'm looking at would kill somebody in about 1 minute. She told me to have a nice day and hung up. They stayed there for about 15 mins and then lifted up and were gone in a secOnd. Wildest thing I have ever seen.

Seen that on Fork several years ago. Fishing a point in Garret creek and they swarmed the boat and landed . Scared the snot out of us. And just as quick as they came they all left and we were certainly glad they did. We left the area pretty quickly after they did.

Piece of advice, if they start bouncing off of you, GTFO there immediately! Had a swarm chase me one time. I ended up in the water to get them all off of me. Had my phone in my pocket too

This far north it was probably European honeybees. I have a friend who kept bees on my property for years and swarms would show up all the time. I came home one day to a swarm buzzing around the front gate. I walked right through them ( Matrix Moment) to get to the house.
Just remember : NEVER swat at a honeybee. It ticks 'em off and they release pheremones (sp?) that signal "attack" to all the others.

This happens on Hubbard Creek this time of year a lot. We saw about 20 big swarms this past week and they are loud. Sometimes they fly low and are all around you. Pretty spokey but I have never been stung, they are emerging from winter hives and moving about. 99% of bee swarms are regular bees and won't sting you unless provoked.
Retirement best job ever.

This story isnt about bees but hornets. Me and Anglin ag were fishing the end of a boat dock when a guy walks down the dock and sprays a gigantic hornets nest. They came flying out of his boathouse 100s of them right at us we were screeming and jumping around like panic little girls. I looked at the guy yelling WTF and he was laughing his butt off. I hate them dam things . Id rather be around snakes.
