After fishing Por"A"-Aransas Pass area every weekend for the last couple months,I'm happy to say the wind has calmed down and the water is nice and trout green, finally! Me and my bro was there last weekend for the "Take a kid fishing" tournament (which I recommend to anybody that has access to take a younger person fishing). It was Ideal fishing. We ended up with 16 specks and one heck of a time with the boys. (Andy 9, A.J. 14). The weather has arrived, lets go fishing!!

How does the Kid Tournament work? Do they win trophies or just prizes? Do most fish from shore, or do you take them out in boats...to catch anything, or are there categories and age groups? I'm asking for next year I guess...took daughter to Coleto Creek Tourney, but wondered about the one in Port A.

Every kid "wins" a trophy. they make up catagories as the kids weight in so that everybody wins. this year every kid recieved a rod/reel combo at the sign up. the fish is all species, hard heads, pins, pigs, even if you don't catch a fish u get a trophy "best hard luck story" "or the biggist fish that got away" it's great for the kids and there is no loosers
