I am heading out on an 8 hour Galveston party boat offshore trip. I have never done this before and just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on what I could possibly do that might make it a better fishing trip. I have heard about trying to get to the back of the boat, but my position is on the side. Thanks for the help.

buy ice fish & silver eel & piggy perch b4 u go
buy some kingfish leaders from academy for freelining the silver eel (try Smitty's) take first exit on I45 once you get to the island it will be on the feeder on the right
if you know how to rig your own leaders you will do better by using better hooks and pieces of leader material(steel/ nylon coated or piano wire)
also if you have your own boat rod bring it, as it will probably be better than the equipment on the boat
good luck & have fun

One other thing. If the party boat is moving around from place to place..be sure to put on new bait once you get to each new spot. The oil of the bait tends to disperse once its fished for any amount of time...new bait = new oil= new smell for game fish and that hopefully equals better catches.

Our trip was a pretty good one, I caught a 4.5 foot hammerhead and two really nice king fish. Also caught 3 small snapper, but only one was a keeper. I went with my brother who caught a king and 4 keeper snapper. It was a good time and will post some pictures soon. I did take yalls advice and bought steel leaders and cigar minnows and I think it really helped out. Thanks again for the advice.

Trips start at $60 for the shortest most basic all the way up to $200+
Capt. Elliots out of Freeport is good, as there is a shorter run w/ more quality fish

rcopester, we used Galvestonpartyboats.com to make our reservations. We went out on the 8 hour trip, but have heard that the 12 hour trips are much more sucessful. I heard they dont waste as much time driving around looking for spots.
