Scott...coming back from Port A (10 days ago) I saw a couple of guys walking out from Deadman's and I could see their vehicle also - I know they were stuck...the amount of rain they have had down there (even since then) will make DM hole almost inaccessable except by boat - you can give it a try - (4x) might can do it, but be careful.

Thanks for the info bobaloo1. I would imagine that even with the rains we had down there last weekend that the "hole" was going to be tuff to get to. Maybe after it dries out, and the way that looks it may be spring. LOL

TOO, isn't fun trying to get a bunch of us together! A suggestion is that maybe we can meet at Billings - Sat 7 a.m., another location around noon to 1 p.m., and a early afternoon on Sat or a set place to find all of us. I guess Sunday will be Billings again unless the surf or the jetties are calling. I will be making my reservations tonight so I will let you know where we are staying. I will ask for a late checkin so we can get fishing asap.

Hey guys,

Lady_Red here. Just to let ya'll know that me and a coupla friends made it out to PINS this past Saturday and surf fished. Big waves. My friend got broke off twice, my other friend lost a trout which looked to be about 28" or so. We were free-lining live shrimp. A couple of other friends that were at Northsticks on Mustang Island limited out on reds. In all it was a great day of fishing. It rained in Corpus but not where we were at. Sunday we tried hitting the jetties but the current was way too strong and it was raining/drizzling non stop. Packed it up and called it a weekend. Hope the weather holds for those of you that plan on driving down this weekend. Supposed to cool down to the 60's on Friday. Lots of areas not good to drive at this time due to the rains.

I have listed a couple of places ya'll might want to call ahead of time to check on driving conditions to some honey holes. Im not saying they would know but maybe it could help.

Thanks for the help Lady Red. As you know a few of us are heading that way this weekend. How is the availablity of live shrimp? The last few times I have been down (August) there is very little or none at most of the bait stands (some mentioned above).

Scottie

PS - here is the marine forcast for Sat & Sun -
.SATURDAY...SOUTHEAST WIND 5 TO 10 KNOTS. BAYS SMOOTH.
.SUNDAY...EAST WIND AROUND 10 KNOTS. BAYS SLIGHTLY CHOPPY.

This the 50th post on this subject and we're sounding like we've gotten nothing done.LOL.............I'm down Friday night, will be at Billings at 7am for Saturday morning fishing.......anyone who is down there can meet me there and we'll do the deal.......scottie, call me when you leave on my cell, you got the number right? (210)215-3877, it's also on my website, www.outdoorstexas.com .......if you can get down around 3pm we'll have a good 4 hours to work either the surf or the bay...........Trapper, I know you got a long way to go, just wanted to see when you would be getting there. If you can give us a little more precise time by Friday afternoon we can figure out a way to let you know where we'll be.....maybe leave a note at a baithouse, or the like, or if you got a cell phone, give us a call when you get there.........hoping HH sees this and shows up...........Henry and USMCCD, my truck is easy to spot, has my business on the side.........I'll be out of the H2O Saturday by noonish and will be listening for a call or two then we can meet either at Billings or at where we fish.......scottie, I'll buy the bait if needed before you and III get down if you want, that way you can just meet me at where-ever we decide.......getting to Deadmans when it's wet is not a good idea, so most likely fish pass if we do the bay, and need to be mobile and cover N and S from the opening along the shoreline......live shrimp, Cocohoe style plastics, and TTK's are my game plan........Then maybe the surf if the wind stays low, however it will be crowded on the beach no matter where we go.....so be prepared for that......LadyR, heck of a report and info, thanks for the input, hope we see you there.......might be a good idea to buy a extra spool of line for whatever rig folks plan to use in the surf, been a lot of spooled reels lately.

TOO, I'll call you when I get into the area, I'll keep your number handy. I will probably leave friday night. Right now I am thinking I may stay through monday and perhaps take a party boat if I do. The weather may affect my plans though, I will keep my eye on it. My number is 806 543-8419. When I said cut e some slack I meant this will be my first trip there so I know nothing about the area.

Scottie,

Shrimp has been plentiful. Lots of mullet running in the surf. Take a cast-net and have fun.

I know man it's ok, just hoping we can get everyone together and have a good time.......forgot to say SPID is South Padre Island Drive. It is the main Highway down to Padre Island. Once on it, it will take you to the Island and you then either take a left at the light after the Causeway or stright towards Padre Island National eashore(PINS) got your number, we get everyone who wants together, got a number of reds with Trappers and III's name on them.........scottie this almost like work, you'd beeter catch a fish or 10!

I had no intention of coming this weekend, but with all reports - couldn't stand it and am coming also. I'll be in a red, hightop Dodge van with fishing stickers all over it and a rod rack on the hitch receiver...easy to spot. I bounce around a bunch to different spots. We have 3 fronts coming back-to-back...should be sorta wild down there...I suspect the winds will be changing around quite a bit, so plan on being flexible. When seriously fishing I just sleep in the van and another well kept secret is that Captain's Quarters has a shower service...you pay $5 and they provide a room w/ shower, towels, shampoo, etc...great for those day or 2 trips when you wouldn't spend time in the room anyway. Also, a number of the motels in PA are now on winter rates and they are $45 for a single...not too bad. Hope to see ya there.

Well guys I just got a truck so i will be down there ready to go just about anywhere. Now that i am no longer in a sports car i think fishing will be easier. The surf sounds like it might be the ideal spot for this weekend, but i am wanting to head to you alls spots in the bay so that i have a couple spots for this winter. I will most likely get lost so i will keep your number on speed dial so that i can get some directions to your spot. Looking forward to getting my darg worked out, but most importantly i am excited about meeting some fishing fanatics like myself. Hope you all have a great day. God Bless.

trapperben: KUJO and I will be there Sunday night, fishing all day Monday. If you decide to stay, look us up...we'll likely be at Mustang Island SP or thereabouts.

Well, we are getting there now. Thanks, TOO. bobaloo1, I think you are right about the winds, direction, speed, etc. I think we may see all directions before the weekend is over. So, we do need to be mobile. Maybe even Portland or Stedmens....

Like some of the others I am looking forward to trying the surf if the conditions are ripe. Got a cheap surf rod and reel to try. I love throwing tackle with surf rods.... Don't be behind me.LOL

With the rain last weekend I had time to get all the reels oiled and ready. On some of the reels I put on a little bigger line but, on all the bay rigs I left alone with 12 lb test.

TOO, this will be great fun and I hope to meet many of you TFFer's.

Scottie

PS - Hardhead come on down, it will be good for the soul.

If u are in the brew of a rainstorm...say about 45min to an hour...MAKE SURE THOSE LINES ARE IN THE WATER whether the winds are strong, the water choppy, or even a drizzle and work that bait.
I may be out there roaming around somewhere. Might take my kayak along. Let me know if there's anything ya'll need me to find out before ya'll venture out. If its within my reach, i dont mind.
